The movie that started the Harry Potter series is still wonderful to watch.
One of the great things about the series is how right they got the casting; this movie alone has a stellar cast with great performances not only from the seasoned actors but from the fresh young cast too.
Alan Rickman steals this movie and seems to have great fun being the thorn in Harry's side! Robbie Coltrane is also the perfect person to bring lovable Hagrid to life!
Full of amazing scenes, the chess game being amongst my favourites; this film will continue to be a classic for children and adults alike! Magical fun!!

The Lion King

Directors: Roger Allers & Rob Minkoff

Starring: Matthew Broderick, Jeremy Irons, James Earl Jones, Jonathon Taylor Thomas, Moira Kelly, Nathan Lane, Ernie Sabella, Rowan Atkinson, Robert Guillaume, Madge Sinclair, Whoopi Goldberg, Cheech Marin, Jim Cummings

Distributed By: Walt Disney Pictures

Release Date: June 1994

---------------------------------------------------------------

Probably my favourite of all the Disney movies, this brings back fond memories and it still makes me laugh and get very teary in certain places!
The voice cast is amazing; especially Jeremy Irons who brings such malice and contempt into Scar's character, whilst James Earl Jones brings real authority and kindness to the great King Mufasa.
Of course this movie is all about Simba - the cheeky cub prince as he discovers life's hard lessons; both Jonathon Taylor Thomas and Matthew Broderick give Simba a youthful naivete and sense of wonder as he makes two unlikely friends, the hilarious meerkat Timon, wonderfully voiced by Nathan Lane and the proud and gentle warthog Pumbaa.
The animation is still breathtaking and seeing it again in 3D gave it some lovely enhancements.
The music throughout is beautiful and the songs really bring the story to life and are so enjoyably memorable!
A beautiful film that really is King of them all!

Stardust

Director: Matthew Vaughn

Starring: Claire Danes, Charlie Cox, Sienna Miller, Jason Flemying, Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert DeNiro, Mark Strong, Rupert Everett, Peter O'Toole

Distributed By: Paramount Pictures

Release Date: August 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------

This is one of my favourite movies!
It has the perfect blend of fantasy, action, dark humour and sweet romance.
Charlie Cox is very likable as Tristan as he discovers there's more to his world than he realised and Claire Danes gives a wonderful performance as the star that captures his heart. I also really like Kate Magowan as Una and Melanie Hill as the witch Ditchwater Sal.
Mark Strong is excellent as power hungry Prince Septimus as he does all it takes to reclaim his crown and there's outstanding performances by Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert DeNiro who each go through very different transformations, but what really gives this movie its edge is all the smaller cast roles; every actor has great lines and there's so much humour throughout.
This is feel-good territory on a grand scale and is the perfect way to spend two uplifting hours! Magical!!

Red Riding Hood

Director: Catherine Hardwicke

Starring: Amanda Seyfried, Gary Oldman, Billy Burke, Shiloh Fernandez, Max Irons, Virginia Masden, Lukas Haas, Julie Christie

Distributed By: Warner Bros.

Release Date: March 2011

--------------------------------------------------------------

I really like this dark and atmospheric tale and especially like that the setting is quite old fashioned as the feel of the villiage really helps to make this a chilling tale.
Amanda Seyfried is very good as Valerie and she's continuing to prove herself to be a versatile actress.
Gary Oldman gives a strong performance as Father Soloman who is determined to discover the truth about the town and Julie Christie and Billy Burke both give excellent performances and I also like Shiloh Fernandez as Peter.
Mysterious and surprising this is an enjoyable version of the ancient folk tale.
