Tremors

Director: Ron Underwood

Starring: Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward, Finn Carter, Michael Gross, Reba McEntire, Victor Wong

Distributed By: Universal Studios

Release Date: January 1990

---------------------------------------------------------------

One of my favourite monster-movies; the great thing about Tremors is its subtleties.
It's fairly short, has a well rounded cast and is proud of the b-movie status and all of these things make it a movie that is perfect even after all these years!
Kevin Bacon shines as Val the cocky 'handyman' about town as he and his best friend, Fred Ward's Earl, try to find a way to outsmart the creatures that have them on the menu.
The script is lighthearted and funny whilst all hell breaks loose and I never get tired of hearing Kevin Bacon shouting "I got a Goddamn plan!".
Monster mayhem as its best!

Robin Hood: Men In Tights

Director: Mel Brooks

Starring: Cary Elwes, Richard Lewis, Roger Rees, Amy Yasbeck, Avery Schreiber, Dave Chappelle, Tracey Ullman, Mel Brooks

Distributed By: 20th Century Fox/Columbia TriStar Film

Release Date: July 1993

---------------------------------------------------------------

This is a very funny take on the Robin Hood story.
Cary Elwes is great fun to watch and is charmingly brilliant as the perfectly English Robin Hood!
My favourite character is the kinda bored and sarcastic Prince John; wonderfully played by Richard Lewis and Tracey Ullman is brilliantly dramatic as the witch Latrine.
Mel Brooks adds some great Jewish humour to the movie and it remains funny, no matter how much time goes by!
The stand out moment is of course the Men In Tights song!
Excellent medieval fun that doesn't take itself seriously at all!

The Odyssey

Director: Andrei Konchalovsky

Starring: Armand Assante, Greta Scacchi, Isabella Rossellini, Vanessa L. Williams, Bernadette Peters, Alan Stenson

Distributed By: NBC/Hallmark Home Entertainment

Release Date: May 1997

--------------------------------------------------------------

This is a very enjoyable story focusing on the journey that Odysseus takes after the victory at Troy. Armand Assante is great and really delivers as we see Oddyseus's trials moving him away from his beloved family and home.
It has a great cast and I particularly like Isabella Rossellini as the Goddess Athena who helps guide Odysseus along the way. A great addition to the Greek historical genre.

This is one on my favourite animated movies.
I'm a big fan of anything to do with superheroes and this is really good fun.
Craig T. Nelson is very funny as Mr Impossible and has some of the best lines. I also really love Brad Bird as Edna who is a brilliant character.
It's especially funny seeing the family as 'normal' citizens as they try to hide their identities!
The entire voice cast is great and the animation is perfect!
Enjoyable from start to finish; The Incredibles should be in everyone's collection!

It features a great supporting cast and the always excellent Helena Bonham Carter gives a delightfully subtle performance.
There are many very humorous moments that lifts the serious tone and makes this true story even more remarkable!

A lovely but bittersweet tale set against the wild beauty of Montana. Brad Pitt is wonderful in his role as the youngest of a trio of brothers who are all torn for the love of the same woman against the hardships of war as they vie for their stern fathers approval.

The first instalment in the Bourne series, based on the successful book series by Robert Ludlam is an exciting non-stop chase throughout Europe as Jason Bourne tries to remember who he is and who he's running from.
Matt Damon plays Bourne well as he goes through a range of emotions and is involved in some brilliantly filmed action sequences whilst Franka Potente is excellent as the girl caught up in his mysterious story.

Distributed By: Warner Bros. Pictures

Release Date: July 2010

A truly inspiring and clever movie, Inception is one of the best Sci-Fi thrillers of our time!
The brilliant cast really make this film engaging and Christopher Nolan's script and direction are perfect.
Leonardo DiCaprio gives a heartfelt performance as a man who has lost everything and is trying to put his life back together, whilst Marion Cotillard shines as his one weakness as she tries to thwart his plans!
The entire cast each delivers memorable scenes as they delve into the world of dreams.
The special effects and script give this movie its Sci-Fi status, but it's the cast that ultimately ensures that this is an intelligent thriller with a twist!
Hook me up to that dream machine and let me wander... Genius!

Troy

Director: Wolfgang Peterson

Starring: Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom, Rose Byrne, Peter O'Toole, Diane Kruger, Sean Bean, Brian Cox, Julie Christie, Saffron Burrows

Distributed By: Warner Bros. Pictures

Release Date: May 2004

------------------------------------------------------------

There's plenty to enjoy about this movie; from Paris realising that he's unintentionally started a war by stealing Helen for his own, to the Greek gift horse that brings about Troy's destruction.
With a great cast of seasoned actors as well as some that were just starting out; this is a historical adventure on an epic scale.
Orlando Bloom gets the 'lover not a fighter' persona of Paris just right and Eric Bana gives Hector a heroic air as he tries to honour both his family and his country.
Brian Cox is deliciously menacing as the power hungry Agamemnon, whilst Brad Pitt gives Achilles a surly attitude as the soldier fighting for a king he despises and Rose Byrne and Diane Kruger both give beautiful performances as the women caught amongst the chaos!
Amazing battle scenes and a moving score by James Horner help to make the story of Troy an adventure that deserves to be appreciated!

This is a lovely story about believing in yourself and those you love. It features a brilliant cast wonderfully led by Stockard Channing and Dianne Weist as the two Aunt's.
Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman have great chemistry as witchy sisters Sally and Gillian and really make their story believable.
Goran Visnjic looks like he has a great time playing nasty Jimmy and Aiden Quinn brings a likable and strong quality to the detective trying to sort it all out! Magical fun!!

Director: Desmond Davis

Distributed By: MGM

Release Date: June 1981

-----------------------------------------------------------

I grew up watching the Ray Harryhausen movies and this is still very enjoyable.
As a big fan of the Greek myths and fantasy in general this is a movie I will always enjoy.
It's truly inspiring to see where stop motion began and motion capture has followed leading the newest generation of movies today and for that reason alone these movies are greats!
This movie has a great cast and a vast collection of scary characters trying to stop Harry Hamlin's Perseus defeating the Kraken whilst the Gods try to help or hinder him!
Good fun and a classic in every sense!

Sherlock Holmes

Starring: Robert Downey Jr, Jude Law, Rachel McAdams, Mark Strong

Distributed By: Warner Bros Pictures

Release Date: December 2009

--------------------------------------------------------------

A brilliantly intelligent and entertaining adventure begins as Holmes and Watson try to outwit the mysterious Blackwood.
This is a really great start to what will hopefully be a series of Sherlock Holmes movies!
Robert Downey Jr. is perfect as Holmes bringing a slightly eccentric and erratic air to his mostly logical persona; whilst Jude Law makes Watson sensible and loyal to a fault!
Mark Strong excels as power hungry Blackwood and Rachel McAdams brings a good dose of femininity to proceedings.
It also features a fantastic score by Hans Zimmer which gives it a distinctive British sound.
Great movie!
